  • Beans stewed in tomato sauce can be served on their own as an appetizer, as a side dish, or stirred into other recipes. To make them, you'll need dried beans, tomato paste, water, and salt — plus any spices you like, to taste. Soak the beans ahead of time for 10–12 hours (overnight is easiest), then boil them until tender. Make a tomato sauce by thinning the tomato paste with water in a 1:3 ratio. Simmer the cooked beans in the tomato sauce and add salt. That's it! Serve them hot or chilled.
