    1. Thaw the mackerel first; you'll only need the fillets, so carefully pick out all the bones. 2. Sprinkle the inner side of each fillet half evenly with salt, fish seasoning, and gelatin. 3. Grate the carrots. 4. Peel the hard-boiled eggs and slice them into rounds. 5. Lay the carrots over one fillet half and arrange the egg rounds on top. 6. Press the two fillet halves together, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, tie with kitchen twine, and poke the bundle in several spots with a toothpick. 7. Bring water to a boil, lower in the bundle, and cook for half an hour over medium heat, then let it cool. 8. Refrigerate the cooled fish for 12 hours under a weight. Your appetizer is ready to serve!
