Artichoke Tea

Believe it or not, you can make tea from artichokes too! I'm guessing few people even picture what an artichoke looks like — though a quick online search will show you. Artichoke tea is brewed from the plant's leaves and is most often taken as a preventive or therapeutic remedy, since the brew is quite bitter and not exactly a pleasure to drink. But the plant has many beneficial properties: it regulates appetite, lowers stomach acidity, and acts as a mild laxative. It also helps the body recover from excess alcohol and a poor diet, supports the liver, and eases metabolic issues. Artichoke is also said to help lower high cholesterol and blood sugar.

  • And here's how to make artichoke tea — no different from any other herbal infusion. Pour hot water over the dried artichoke leaves and let them steep for about 15 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it twice a day, half an hour before meals. To cut the plant's bitterness, you can add a little honey. Important: always consult a specialist — your doctor — before starting any remedy.
