Cooking method
- I got this recipe from my grandmother, who lived in Crimea. She often made her own wine—and mulled wine from it (she grew grapes at home). The mulled wine she made by hand kept the whole family healthy through the fall and winter, plus it was an extra source of vitamins. Scrub the orange well, then slice it—peel and all—into pieces or rounds. Put the orange in a pot and pour in the wine. Add all the listed ingredients and warm it over low heat, taking care not to let it boil. The moment you see the mulled wine about to start bubbling, pull it off the heat right away. Strain it and serve immediately—for a cold, it's best to drink a cup before bed at night.
