  • Dijon, or grain, mustard first appeared in France. It's made from brown or black mustard seeds and used mainly in sauces, seasonings, and salad dressings. It has a rich flavor that makes salads brighter and tastier. This vegetable salad with French mustard takes minimal effort and very little time. It adds variety to your everyday menu and fills your body with vitamins and nutrients. And thanks to the farmer's cheese, the salad is also filling, which makes it perfect for a complete dinner. So, wash all the vegetables well. We'll layer the salad in a bowl — it looks prettier that way. Dry the iceberg with paper towels to get rid of excess water. Cut the leaves into strips or squares, whichever you prefer. Put them in the bowl as the first layer. Then cut the cucumber and tomato into wedges and add them to the bowl. For the next layer, slice sweet bell pepper into half-rings or rings; for contrast you can use green or yellow. Next add onion cut into slivers — red, white, or shallot is best, as these varieties are milder, without the bitterness of regular onion, and are ideal for salads. Make the dressing: in a separate container, mix 1 tablespoon of French mustard, vegetable or olive oil, and freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice. Mix it well. Top the salad with a layer of large-curd farmer's cheese, salt it, and drizzle the mustard dressing over the top as evenly as possible. Sprinkle with any fresh herbs to taste, such as dill and parsley, and pepper if you like. Before eating, mix the salad well and taste again for salt. This salad is delicious with a crust of freshly baked bread. And what a fragrant, mouthwatering juice is left at the bottom of the bowl! If you leave out the farmer's cheese, you can confidently serve the salad with chicken, cutlets, potatoes, and even grilled kebabs. Give it a try and you're sure to love it. Enjoy!
