Mixed Frozen Berry Compote
A compote of frozen berries is a wonderful way to quench your thirst and cool off. There's no need to thaw the berries first — they'd release a lot of juice and lose a lot of their vitamins along with it. Use any frozen berries you like — cherries, currants, strawberries — or, better yet, make the compote from a mix of frozen berries.

- Pour the water into a pot, set it over the heat, and add the sugar. Once the water boils, add the berries and simmer over low heat. Don't cook it long, so the vitamins aren't destroyed. The compote is especially tasty with a little lemon or orange added. When I'm after something extra refreshing, I throw in a few mint leaves. Once the berries have released their juice, simmer them for another five minutes, then turn off the heat. Let the compote steep, covered, for a couple of hours — it'll taste even better.
