Sugar-Free Apple Butter

Cutting sugar from your diet? You can still cook something delicious without it! Many home cooks avoid making sweet preserves for winter because of how much sugar they contain. And it's true — a thick layer of sweet jam on a slice of white bread isn't the healthiest choice. Still, I highly recommend putting up some fragrant apple butter for winter. Let's get a little creative and make it with no sugar at all!

    1. Choose ripe apples, ideally a variety that isn't too tart. 2. Wash them and cut away any blemishes — that affects how long your preserve will keep. 3. Cut into slices, put them in a pot, and cover with water. 4. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring as you go. 5. Once the cooked apple slices have cooled, press them through a sieve. 6. Cook the resulting purée over low heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened. 7. Spoon the finished apple butter into clean, dry, sterilized jars and seal them airtight. It's best to pasteurize the jars at 212°F (100°C) for 20 minutes. Enjoy the apple flavor and aroma — stay healthy!
