Milk Porridge with Oats and Raisins

  • Pick over the oats to remove any chaff and rinse them. Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Salt to taste, pour in the oats, and stir. Cook until almost done — regular oats take about 15 minutes, while quick oats need only about three. When the porridge starts to bubble, pour in the milk and add the raisins. Bring to a boil, stir, cover, and lower the heat. Then turn off the heat and let the porridge rest. Just remember: the longer it sits, the thicker it gets. Spoon it into a bowl and top with butter. Enjoy!
