Magic Cake
Magically tender, simple, and delicious! It comes together in a flash — and disappears just as fast! This Magic Cake gets its name because it's magically easy to make and has a wonderfully delicate sponge-and-cream flavor. And, depending on your imagination, you can decorate it as simply or as fancifully as you like. I finished mine with chocolate shavings and chocolate figures, but if you're short on time, a dusting of chocolate shavings is plenty. Cherries also make a great topping — they pair beautifully with chocolate. So, let's make Magic Cake.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Ingredients.
-
Step 2:
Beat the eggs with the sugar.
-
Step 3:
Then mix in the mayonnaise and condensed milk.
-
Step 4:
Add the flour and baking powder and stir until smooth. Prepare the pan and grease it with oil. You can bake 2 layers separately, or bake 1 and cut it in half afterward.
-
Step 5:
Pour the batter into the pan and bake in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 25–30 minutes. Check the sponge with a toothpick or a dry knife: pierce it in the center, and if it's done, the knife or toothpick will come out clean.
-
Step 6:
Meanwhile, make the frosting. Whip the sour cream, adding the powdered sugar a little at a time. Chill the finished cream in the refrigerator so it thickens.
-
Step 7:
Cut the cooled, baked sponge into two layers.
-
Step 8:
Spread sour-cream frosting over it and sprinkle chopped walnuts on top.
-
Step 9:
Set the second layer on top and frost the whole cake with the sour-cream frosting.
-
Step 10:
Scrape chocolate shavings off the chocolate bar with a knife.
-
Step 11:
Press chocolate shavings onto the edges of the cake, then refrigerate it so it soaks and the frosting sets.
-
Step 12:
Make the chocolate decorations. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
-
Step 13:
Ahead of time, prepare a template for the chocolate figures and a sturdy plastic sleeve. You can also draw on parchment paper. Slip the template under the sleeve, fill a piping syringe or bag with the melted chocolate, and carefully trace the design over the sleeve.
-
Step 14:
Then shift the template and keep tracing. Try to pipe the lines on the thicker side so the finished figures hold up. Make a few extra, since some may break.
-
Step 15:
Slide a flat tray or board under the piped figures and put them in the refrigerator to set.
-
Step 16:
Take the cake out of the refrigerator and coat the sides with chocolate shavings too.
-
Step 17:
Decorate the cake with the chocolate figures. The cake is ready — enjoy!
