  • First, cream the eggs and sugar, then mix in the sour cream, the condensed milk with a couple of tablespoons of cocoa, and the slaked baking soda. Adding the flour a little at a time, knead a batter and divide it in two. Bake a cake layer from each half. Once the layers are baked, trim them neatly into rounds, and crush the trimmings into crumbs. Cut each layer in half so you end up with four in all — it's delicate work, so let the layers cool first. Grind some sugar into powder in a coffee grinder. For the cream, whip the condensed milk and coffee with the powdered sugar in a mixer. Spread a layer of cream over each cake layer, assemble the cake, and coat the sides with cream too. Sprinkle the entire surface evenly with the fine crumbs. The "Coffee with Milk" chocolate sour cream cake is ready — invite guests over or keep it all to yourself; that's up to you. I first learned this recipe back in my early youth, from a friend. This cake was once a big hit at student parties. Russian cuisine has countless sour cream cake recipes, but this one is especially good.
