  • This recipe comes from Mongolian cuisine. It's admittedly a bit involved, with a long list of ingredients, but if you make it right you'll definitely impress your guests with your command of Mongolian cooking. To start, stir together the soy sauce, sherry (or rice wine), and sugar. Marinate the beef tenderloin in this mixture for about an hour. While it marinates, cut the bamboo shoots, the piece of ginger, and the mushrooms into pieces, and slice the carrots into long matchsticks. Once the meat is marinated, pat it dry and arrange it with the prepared vegetables on a large platter. Next, combine the vegetable oil and butter and heat them in a fondue pot — but don't let it get too hot. Cook the meat and vegetables in the hot oil until done; spearing them on fondue forks makes it easier. For each guest (there should be 4, since the recipe serves 4), whisk an egg yolk in a separate bowl and set one in front of each person. Dip the cooked meat and vegetables into the yolk — it's delicious. Your Mongolian meat fondue is ready; now all that's left is to wow your guests.
