Crispy waffles in a waffle iron

For the happy owners of a miracle device - an electric waffle iron! Waffles can be thick and soft - these are Viennese waffles. Or they can be thin and crispy - they are familiar to all of us from childhood, so our grandmothers and mothers baked them in electric wafers. It is these waffles that this recipe offers.

Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 20 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

Prepare the waffle preparation products. From this quantity I got 8 pieces with a diameter of about 10 cm.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Put the butter in a saucepan with a thick bottom. Melt it on a low heat on the stove. You can use other methods, they will be described below.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Add sugar to the warm butter. Stir with a whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved. From the heat, the sugar will melt quite quickly.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Add the egg to the butter. After all, check the oil beforehand to see if it is hot, otherwise the egg may boil. Mix the egg with the butter until smooth.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

    Add flour, add vanilla.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Mix the mass with a whisk until a smooth homogeneous dough.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Preheat the waffle iron according to its instructions. I have a very old, Soviet-era electric waffle iron. She may not be very pretty, but she bakes great! I do not lubricate the waffle iron with oil, there is enough fat in the dough, and nothing sticks to it for a long time. But you're looking at your model. Spread the dough on a tablespoon. You can put a little less dough, then the waffles will be smaller and there will be more of them.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8.

Bake the waffles for a few minutes until golden brown. Carefully open the waffle iron, it's very hot! Remove the waffle with a spatula. It's hot and very soft, like a pancake. But as it cools, it becomes firm and crispy. Such waffles can be rolled into a tube. But this should be done immediately after baking, while it is soft and hot, then you will not succeed, the waffle will break.

Be sure to wash the eggs before use, as even the seemingly clean shell may contain harmful bacteria. It is best to use food detergents and a brush.

Butter can be melted in the microwave in the appropriate mode (read the instructions for your device) or in a water bath. How to melt butter in a water bath? You will need two containers of different diameters. Pour water into a large one and put it on the stove. Place the smaller container on top so that it is submerged in water by about half. Put the sliced butter into it. Under the influence of boiling water, the oil will begin to melt. Stir the oil slightly to speed up the process. As soon as the pieces of oil are completely dissolved, remove the container from the stove.

Important! Keep in mind that all waffle irons are different. It is possible that the plates of your appliance will need to be lightly lubricated with vegetable oil with a high smoking temperature when baking the first product, in order to avoid its sticking.

The heating temperature for each waffle iron model is individual. Therefore, the exact cooking time for your appliance can only be determined experimentally. It is quite possible that 30 seconds will be enough for you, but it is possible that it will take 2-3 minutes to bake. Adjust the baking time specified in the recipe, taking into account the characteristics of your waffle iron.
