Cooking method

Cooking time: 13 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a cake in the microwave? Gather your ingredients.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Crack the eggs into a bowl, add a small pinch of salt and the sugar.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Beat everything well with a whisk or mixer. You can also add cinnamon and vanilla sugar if you like. I make it without cinnamon since my family isn't fond of it, but I'm sure it's delicious with it too.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Mix the baking powder into the flour and sift. Add the sifted flour to the egg mixture gradually, whisking well so no lumps remain. Go by the batter consistency rather than the exact amount of flour (you may need a little more or less) — it should be like medium-thick sour cream.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Cut the apples into wedges. It's best to peel them, but that's up to you and how tough the skin is.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Grease a microwave-safe dish well with butter. Arrange the apple wedges over the bottom however you like.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Pour the batter over the apples. Put it in the microwave. Set the power to 800 watts and run it for 5 minutes. If the apple cake is still a bit raw, add 1 more minute at most — any longer and it'll turn rubbery. If it seems a little moist, don't worry; it'll finish setting as it rests.

  8. Step 8:

Carefully turn the cake out onto a plate and dig in :)

  9. Step 9:

Here's the cake in cross-section. It's light and completely done! Put the kettle on and call the family to enjoy a tasty, quick dessert.

  10. Step 10:

    Enjoy!

  • When you're craving something sweet, make this microwave cake — 5 minutes and you and your family can enjoy a delicious cake with tea. Use any fruit you like; I used apples. It's easy to make. If you don't have a large microwave-safe dish, split the batter between two smaller ones or halve the recipe. This amount of batter needs at least a 2.5-quart (2.5 L) dish.
  • Be prepared to use a little more or less flour than the recipe calls for. Go by the batter consistency you're after rather than an exact amount. To avoid mistakes, read up on flour and its properties!
  • It's important to sift the flour to aerate it. That way the cake turns out light and rises well while baking.
  • Keep in mind that microwaves aren't all alike. Your cooking time and the recommended power may differ from the recipe. Check your appliance's manual and account for its quirks.
