French-Style Chicken Breast
Very tasty, very quick, and easy — perfect for a family dinner! French-style chicken breast comes out soft, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It's great for any occasion, whether a weeknight dinner or a get-together with friends. It goes with any side dish, but you can also serve it on its own.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make French-style chicken breast? Gather your ingredients. Remove the skin from the chilled chicken breasts, rinse them, and pat dry with a paper towel. Slice the breasts in half horizontally and pound them a little thinner. It's easiest to do this with the meat under plastic wrap or in a bag, so pieces don't fly around the kitchen. Each breast gives you 2–3 pieces.
-
Step 2:
Heat a skillet until hot. Add a little vegetable oil and quickly sear the pounded breasts, just 1–2 minutes per side. Sprinkle the chicken with a little salt and seasoning.
-
Step 3:
Line a baking sheet with foil and brush it with vegetable oil. Arrange the seared breasts on the sheet. Peel the onion, chop it finely, and scatter it over the chicken pieces.
-
Step 4:
Wash and dry the tomatoes, then cut them into pieces. Arrange the tomatoes over the meat and brush them lightly with mayonnaise.
-
Step 5:
Grate the hard cheese on the fine side of a box grater and sprinkle it generously over the chicken breasts. Put the sheet in an oven preheated to 400°F (200°C) for about 30–35 minutes. Adjust the exact time and temperature to your own oven. Take the finished chicken out of the oven and serve hot. Enjoy!
- You can make this dish with any kind of meat — turkey, pork, or veal — but I want to share the chicken version. Chicken is soft and very tender, and it's a favorite with many cooks: affordable, nutritious, and low in calories. Combined with baked tomatoes and melted cheese, the dish is simply superb — delicious and appetizing. Try making it for guests. It's not only a nice way to round out a festive table, it can also save the day before company arrives, since chicken cooks quickly.
- Keep in mind that every oven is different. The temperature and cooking time may vary from what's written here, so keep an eye on the dish as it bakes.
- Note that properly thawing your ingredients has a lot to do with the quality and flavor of the finished dish. For tips on avoiding mistakes and choosing the best method, see an article on defrosting.
