Sprat Sandwiches with Mayonnaise, Tomato, and Cucumber

Sprats lend a piquant flavor to ordinary sandwiches. The perfect appetizer! A regular at my festive table is fish sandwiches — sprat sandwiches, to be exact. They're very easy to make, and the taste makes guests take notice. Let me share the recipe for this appetizer with you.

  • First, take some bread — I prefer a sandwich loaf — and cut it into even slices about 1 centimeter thick (you can set the end crusts aside). Now lay these slices on a baking sheet and put them in an oven preheated to 120°C. Once the bread has browned on one side, flip the slices and toast them on the other side, then take the loaf out of the oven and let it cool. Now rub each slice with garlic on one side and spread it well with mayonnaise. Next, slice the cucumber and tomato into rounds about 0.5 centimeter thick. Put one round of cucumber and one of tomato on each spread slice of bread. Then open a can of sprats in oil and place 1–2 on each slice. Garnish the top with fresh herbs. The sandwiches are ready! Enjoy!
