Tomato Appetizer with Cheese-and-Garlic Topping
A lovely, pretty appetizer for a festive table! These tomatoes will look striking on the table and please absolutely everyone's taste. They make a great appetizer to go with drinks and pair perfectly with the other dishes you prepare for the occasion.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Now I'll tell you how to make a cold tomato-and-cheese appetizer. This recipe is incredibly simple and budget-friendly. Gather the ingredients you'll need. Choose tomatoes of roughly the same size and shape — fresh, juicy, and firm. For herbs I'm using dill, but you can use parsley too.
-
Step 2:
So, we begin by taking a hard or semi-hard cheese and grating it on a fine grater. Sometimes I use cheese with paprika — it has little red flecks and is perfect for a dish like this.
-
Step 3:
Now take the garlic, peel it, and chop it finely or press it through a garlic press; you can also just grate it on the fine side of a grater.
-
Step 4:
Then transfer the prepared garlic and cheese to a small deep bowl. Add as much mayonnaise as you like and mix everything well again. Use a high-fat mayonnaise — 50% or 67%.
-
Step 5:
Now take the tomatoes, wash them well, dry them with a paper towel, and slice them into rounds about 5–8 millimeters thick with a sharp knife. Arrange the rounds on a large flat platter in a single layer.
-
Step 6:
Carefully and evenly spread the garlic-and-cheese mixture on top of the rounds. You can do this with a fork or a water-dampened spoon.
-
Step 7:
Garnish the appetizer with a sprig of dill or parsley, or chop the herbs first and sprinkle them over the tomatoes. Give the dish a little time to soak in the flavors. Then serve. Enjoy!
- My very favorite food is the appetizer. It's the appetizer that sets the tone for a festive evening. As they say, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression," so why not make something simple but very tasty for yourself and your guests! I also like to perch these little appetizer tomatoes on toasted bread — there's another version of this dish for you!
