Sweet Pan-Fried Flatbreads

A quick, easy sweet treat for teatime — a little something for the whole family! This is my go-to when I'm craving something sweet but don't have anything on hand for a fancy bake. They come out just moderately sweet, which is perfect for dusting with powdered sugar or drizzling with jam or honey. If you like your pastries sweeter, just add a bit more sugar.

    1. Sift the flour into a wide, deep bowl. 2. Make a well in the center of the flour, crack in the egg, and add the salt and sugar; then pour in the warm water, the slaked baking soda, and 3 tablespoons of the vegetable oil. 3. Knead the dough. Add a little more water or flour as needed — the dough should come together smoothly and stop sticking to your hands. 4. Put the dough in a bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rest in a warm spot for 30 minutes. 5. Divide the dough into pieces and roll each one into a ball. 6. Roll each ball out into a thin flatbread. 7. Heat a little vegetable oil in a skillet and fry the flatbreads on both sides until golden and appetizing. 8. Dust the finished flatbreads with powdered sugar. Enjoy with a cup of tea!
