Turkey Meatballs

A standout dish that's finger-licking good! These turkey meatballs are a hit with anyone who loves a good meat dish — tender, juicy, and fragrant. Serve them with any side you like: rice or grains, mashed potatoes, or fresh and stewed vegetables all work beautifully. The meatballs are first browned in vegetable oil (sunflower, corn, or olive oil all work), then simmered in tomato sauce. Use store-bought or homemade tomato paste for the sauce, and feel free to punch up the flavor with herbs and spices to taste.

  • Turkey is the base for all kinds of delicious dishes. It's rightly considered one of the highest-quality, most wholesome lean poultry, packed with trace minerals the body needs plus vitamins A and E. One of turkey's standout qualities is how little cholesterol it has, which means the meat digests easily. It also has significantly more iron than chicken. One great way to put this healthy meat to use is in tender, juicy meatballs. 1. Rinse the turkey fillet under running water and pat it dry, then cut it into chunks. 2. Peel the onion and cut it into a couple of pieces. 3. Grind the turkey together with the onion in a meat grinder. 4. Wash the parsley and chop it finely. Peel the garlic and run it through a press. 5. Crack the egg into the ground turkey, then add the garlic and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mix well. 6. Shape the mixture into small round meatballs. 7. Pour the vegetable oil into a skillet and set it over the heat. Once the oil is hot, brown the meatballs on both sides until golden. 8. Dilute the tomato paste with water — about 200–300 ml (roughly 1 to 1 1/4 cups). Stir until smooth. 9. Add the sugar to the sauce, then season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Stir in the dried basil. 10. Pour the sauce into a pot and bring it to a boil. As soon as it boils, add the meatballs and cover with a lid. 11. Simmer the meatballs for 20 minutes. Serve hot with any side dish you like. Enjoy!
