Cooking method

Cooking time: 50 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Gather the ingredients for honey mushrooms stewed in sour cream. You won't need much — just the mushrooms themselves, sour cream, spices to taste, and vegetable oil. You can use fresh honey mushrooms straight from the woods or frozen ones, which lets you make this dish even in winter. Rinse and sort the mushrooms, trimming off the bottoms of the stems.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

A lot of cooks skip pre-boiling honey mushrooms before frying or stewing them, but it's worth doing — it speeds up the cooking and gives you a tastier, safer dish. Put the mushrooms in a pot, cover with water, and boil in salted water for 15 minutes from the moment it comes to a boil. Drain, then tip the mushrooms into a colander so all the liquid runs off.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Peel the onion and cut it into rings or dice it with a knife. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet. Add the honey mushrooms and fry for 15 minutes, stirring now and then with a spatula, until they take on a golden crust. Add the chopped onion, stir, and cook over low heat until the onion is soft and translucent.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Stir in the sour cream, add a splash of water, and season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Mix well, cover the skillet, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for about 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Stir a tablespoon of flour into the sauce, mixing quickly with a spatula so it doesn't form lumps. Simmer the mushrooms in the sour cream sauce for about another 15 minutes, then turn off the heat and let the dish rest, covered, for about 15 minutes. Serve on its own or with a side of your choice — potatoes, grains, or pasta. Enjoy!
