Cooking method
-
Step 1:
It's all quick and easy. Use store-bought puff pastry. Grab medium-sized raw potatoes, and whatever cheese and ham you like. The dill, sesame seeds, and oregano are optional.
-
Step 2:
Peel the potatoes and cut them into small cubes. Don't forget to rinse them first ;)
-
Step 3:
Fry the potatoes in vegetable oil over medium-high heat until lightly golden. Season with salt and pepper.
-
Step 4:
Chop up the cheese, ham, and dill.
-
Step 5:
Roll out the thawed pastry just a little. Fit it into your baking dish and prick it all over with a fork.
-
Step 6:
Spread the potatoes over the bottom, then add everything else on top. Season with salt and pepper once more.
-
Step 7:
Brush the edges with the beaten egg yolk, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and place in an oven preheated to 350-365°F (180-185°C). Bake until the crust turns golden and beautifully browned.
-
Step 8:
I baked my pie for 45 minutes. While it's still hot, sprinkle it with oregano. Let it cool a bit, then turn it out of the dish. Now you can call everyone to the table. It's a hearty, fragrant, and truly delicious pie, just as good cold as it is warm, with a thin crust and plenty of filling.
-
Step 9:
It isn't soggy at all and holds its shape beautifully. When you're short on time but want something delicious, this recipe is just the thing. Come join in!
- This pie is made from puff pastry with a potato filling plus ham, cheese, and herbs. It comes together in very little time, and you can use just about any filling you like. If you love mushrooms, they pair wonderfully with the pie. No ham? No problem, potatoes and cheese complement each other just as well. This pie is truly versatile; the real point of the recipe is the idea itself. Let your imagination run and get creative! By the way, if you have leftover mashed potatoes on hand, you can use those instead of the fried potatoes for an equally great flavor. All in all, if guests show up unexpectedly, or you come home from work with little time to cook and your favorite show, movie, or game is about to start, this pie makes a wonderful stand-in for pizza.
