Meat Pie on a Potato-Dough Crust

A complete meal in itself — hearty enough for lunch! Our family loved this recipe, and we hope you'll give it a try. The amounts are for a 10-inch (26 cm) springform pan. Serve it as a stand-alone dish!

Cooking method

    Chop the potatoes small and boil them in salted water until tender. Drain, then mash them. Add an egg and the butter, season with salt, and stir until smooth.

    Add the flour and knead into a dough. Press it into a springform pan, building up the sides. Put it in the freezer while you make the filling.

    Chop the onion and cook it in a skillet for a couple of minutes until golden. Cut the meat into small cubes, add it to the onion, and simmer, covered, for about 10 minutes; season with salt and pepper. Add the finely chopped tomato and eggplant and simmer another 3–5 minutes.

    Now the sauce. Whisk together the cream, milk, and tomato paste. Add the egg and whisk lightly. Season with salt and pepper.

    Spread the filling over the dough and pour the sauce on top.

    Bake for 40 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Sprinkle with grated cheese 10 minutes before it's done. Enjoy!
