- For this sweet dough you'll start with a sponge. It's best to have all the ingredients at room temperature and the butter soft. 1. Add the yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and some sifted flour to the warm milk. The mixture should be about as thick as sour cream. Cover it with a towel and leave it in a warm spot. 2. Once bubbles start to appear on the sponge, add the rest of the ingredients: eggs, vanilla sugar, butter, salt, and the remaining sifted flour. Knead thoroughly until the dough is smooth and lump-free. 3. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise. It should double twice, and then you can start shaping the pies. 4. Roll out a round of dough, place 1 teaspoon of jam in the center, and pinch the edges tightly to seal. 5. Shake off any excess flour and fry the pies in vegetable oil on both sides until golden.
