How to Boil Frozen Cooked Shrimp

Tender, tasty, fragrant and healthy shrimp are always a good idea. Shrimp can and should be eaten as often as possible, since they boast an impressive list of beneficial qualities. They're low in calories and fat but very high in protein, which makes them valuable in a healthy, diet-conscious diet, and they contain a whole range of vitamins and trace minerals. It's even been shown that people who eat seafood and fish live longer than others. Cooking shrimp is quick and easy, though there are a few tricks worth following.

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

The ingredient list is hardly complicated — the stars here are the shrimp, and the taste of the finished dish depends heavily on their quality. The shrimp should be roughly the same size and whole, and the ice glaze should be thin; otherwise, as they thaw, they'll lose a lot of weight and you'll be paying only for water. Shrimp sold in stores are usually pre-cooked, so this won't take long.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

First, set a fairly roomy pot of water on the heat (the ratio of shrimp to water should be at least 1:2), and meanwhile remove the icy glaze. Shrimp are often tossed into the pot with it still on, but that's a common mistake. The quickest way is just to rinse them under warm water — this gets rid of excess grit, broken-off antennae and legs, and the ice.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

When the water boils, add a dried dill flower head — it gives a characteristic aroma. Instead of a flower head you can use fresh dill or dill seeds, or skip it entirely.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Add salt — don't be alarmed, you'll need quite a lot: 40–45 g of salt per liter of water.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Add spices to taste — a few cloves and some black peppercorns and allspice are perfect here.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

When the spiced water comes to a boil, add the prepared shrimp and bring it back to a boil.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Boil the shrimp for literally 2–3 minutes — shellfish meat is very delicate and turns tough if overcooked, so it's best not to.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

To make the shrimp easier to peel, rinse them with cold water.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Drizzle the cooked shrimp with lemon juice.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

    Enjoy!
