Fluffy Boiled Rice in Water
Perfect, delicious, full-flavored, every grain separate — and simple. Fluffy rice boiled in water isn't just for a side dish. Add it as an ingredient to other dishes, such as salads or meatballs. And despite how simple the recipe is, it has its own little secrets. I'll share them with you!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you cook fluffy rice in water? Gather the ingredients you'll need. Choose long-grain rice — it's great for a fluffy side dish. Round-grain rice is usually used for porridge, where you want the mixture to be a little sticky.
-
Step 2:
Rinse the rice several times in cold water to wash off the starch. The water should run clear. Then drain off all the excess water.
-
Step 3:
Pour water into the cooking pot and set it over the heat. Bring the water to a boil. It's best to use a pot with a non-stick coating. If you use an enameled one, the rice will stick to the bottom — and might even scorch.
-
Step 4:
Lightly salt the boiling water.
-
Step 5:
Add the rinsed rice to the pot of boiling water and stir right away so the rice doesn't clump together as it goes into the boiling water. Cook the rice over low heat for about 20–25 minutes.
-
Step 6:
As it cooks, the rice will swell and absorb the water. The finished rice will be tender. To give the boiled rice some aroma, you can add a few of your favorite spices to the water while it cooks.
-
Step 7:
Tip the cooked rice into a colander and rinse it with cold water. Let the excess water drain off.
-
Step 8:
Drop a pat of butter into the hot pot the rice cooked in. It will start to melt right away.
-
Step 9:
Add the rinsed rice to the pot with the butter and stir everything together. This keeps the grains from sticking to each other. The fluffy rice is ready! Use it as a side dish for meat or fish. Enjoy your meal!

- For cooking, it's best to use filtered or bottled water with a neutral taste. If you use tap water, bear in mind it can give the dish an unpleasant off-flavor.
