Giant Baked Pelmen

A really tasty, out-of-the-ordinary recipe — everyone is bound to love it. It's simply fantastic! The first time I made this, I cut it into pieces and served everyone a portion, but the next time we just opened up the top and dug in that way. My husband preferred it like that, while I liked it sliced. My four-year-old son happily ate his share and kept saying how delicious it was.

Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Rinse the pork and cut it into cubes. Season with salt, ground black pepper, and dried spices to taste. Stir and let it marinate for 30–40 minutes.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Slice the onion into half-moons, season with salt and ground black pepper, and stir.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut off about a ½-inch (1 cm) slice of butter.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Melt the butter on the stovetop over low heat.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Make a dough just like you would for pelmeni. Roll it into a log and cut it into 5 equal pieces. Roll out each piece, brush it with melted butter using a silicone brush, and stack them on top of one another — leave the top piece unbuttered. Then roll the whole stack out into a single large round.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Pile the meat in the center of the round and top it with the onion. Fold the dough over to enclose everything, and pinch up a rim around the edges. Bake in a 350°F (180°C) oven for 30–40 minutes — once it turns golden, it's done.

  • At first glance you might think the dumpling came out dry, but don't worry — inside it's incredibly juicy and amazingly delicious, and the dough is downright irresistible. Everyone will love it.
