- Here's a recipe for a dish traditional to Denmark — Danish-style schnitzel. It's a wonderful main course that goes with any side, and it works just as well for a holiday spread as for an everyday meal. For the schnitzel, Danish Havarti cheese is recommended. Start by cutting the meat into four large, portion-sized pieces and pounding them thoroughly. Rub each cutlet with a pinch of salt and ground black pepper. You'll also need hard-boiled eggs: boil, cool, peel, and slice them into rounds. Next, cut the cheese into thin slices and lay it over the cutlets, then top the cheese with the egg rounds. Chop the parsley and sprinkle it over the schnitzels. Fold the edges of the meat in to form a roll and secure with toothpicks. Dredge each roll in flour. Melt the butter in a large skillet, heat it up, and add the schnitzels. Fry them on all sides. When the schnitzels are done, transfer them to a plate; in the fat left in the pan you can fry any leftover herbs, then use them to garnish the schnitzels. The dish is ready to serve.
