Cooking method
We defrost the fish for this delicious dish in advance. We do it right by simply transferring the frozen fish to the bottom shelf of the refrigerator and leaving it overnight or vice versa - for a day. Thus, the fish will be thawed slowly and will not lose its excellent taste qualities, as well as benefits.
It is best to take a pitted fillet. So, the fish has thawed. Wash it, then dry the excess moisture with kitchen paper towels.
Wash the potatoes, peel the skin with a knife, and then cut the potatoes into thin slices. Peel the onion from the husk, cut it into rings or half rings - if desired.
We put the frying pan on medium heat, pour olive oil into it and heat it. When this happens, we put potato slices in it, lightly fry them on both sides until half-cooked. Not completely ready! Since potatoes will still be baked with fish.
Remove the potato slices on a plate, and put the chopped onion in the same pan. Cook it with constant stirring for 5 minutes - until translucent. Cover the pan with a lid, but sometimes we mix the onion in the process. Next, add cod to the onion, cut into large pieces. Stir and cook everything together for another 5 minutes.
Turn on the oven to warm up to 180 degrees Celsius. While it is warming up, we prepare a creamy sauce, for which we add a piece of butter to a clean frying pan, melt it and pour flour. Mix everything thoroughly so that there are no lumps. Slowly pour in the milk with constant stirring. Then we also pour in the cream. It remains only to add a pinch of nutmeg, salt to taste, ground black pepper. We cook the sauce to a small thickness - it should not be too thick, just become a little creamy in consistency.
Remove the sauce from the heat, add potato slices and onion with cod to it. We mix everything and put it in a baking dish. We cook the dish in the oven for 20 minutes. We serve it hot on the table.
Bon appetit!
