Skillet navy-style pasta with canned stewed meat
A versatile dish — about as tasty and filling as it gets! Skillet navy-style pasta with canned stewed meat is a simple recipe made from everyday ingredients. Even a beginner cook can manage it. It's wonderful for a family lunch or dinner — nourishing, filling, and easy!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make skillet navy-style pasta with canned stewed meat? First, gather all the ingredients. Which pasta is best? Anything you like — shells, spirals, elbows, or spaghetti. The canned meat can be beef, pork, or poultry. Pick your spices to taste.
-
Step 2:
First, cook the pasta according to the package directions, then drain it in a colander.
-
Step 3:
Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet. Peel and finely chop the onion. Add it to the skillet with salt to taste and a teaspoon of sugar. Fry, stirring, until golden, about 3-5 minutes.
-
Step 4:
Peel and mince the garlic as finely as you can, or press it through a garlic press. Add the garlic and wine vinegar to the skillet. The vinegar cooks off as it fries, leaving the base with a pleasant sweet-and-sour taste. Add the tomato paste and stir-fry for about 2 more minutes.
-
Step 5:
Mash the canned meat with a fork into small pieces, or until smooth if you prefer.
-
Step 6:
Add the meat to the skillet with the onion and bring it to a boil. Pour in half a cup of boiling water (use less or more depending on how thick you want the sauce).
-
Step 7:
Stir and add your favorite spices. I added ground allspice, dried aromatic herbs, and a ready-made vegetable seasoning blend. Salt to taste. Lower the heat and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
-
Step 8:
Add the pasta to the skillet.
-
Step 9:
Mix everything thoroughly and sprinkle with finely chopped herbs — use dill, parsley, or scallions. Stir again, taste, and add salt if needed. Turn off the heat, cover the skillet, and let the dish rest for 5-10 minutes.
-
Step 10:
Done — time to serve! Fresh vegetables or a salad round it out nicely.
- Enjoy!
- Important! The wrong pan can ruin even the best recipe. For everything on choosing the perfect pan for different dishes, see here.
- You can swap the tomato paste for canned tomatoes in their own juice, fresh tomatoes, or ketchup.
