Cooking method

Cooking time: 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make chocolate liqueur? Measure out the ingredients. Use whole condensed milk, 8.5% fat — the better the quality, the tastier the liqueur. The same goes for the vodka. If you're using powdered vanillin, remember to add only a tiny amount, just the tip of a knife, or the drink will turn bitter.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Pour the water into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and add the cocoa and vanillin. Stir well until smooth. Don't worry if it doesn't come together right away — as it cooks, the mixture will loosen up and turn even and smooth.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Then cook for another 2 minutes. It will thicken right before your eyes. Take the saucepan off the heat and let the mixture cool.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Pour the cooled chocolate mixture into a deep bowl.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Stir the condensed milk into the chocolate mixture.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Pour the vodka into the chocolate mixture.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Blend the mixture until smooth. I used a countertop blender, but an immersion blender works too.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Pour the chocolate liqueur into a bottle and cork it. Let it infuse in the refrigerator for 2 days. After that you can pour the first glass and savor your homemade chocolate liqueur. :-)

  • After my successful experiment with egg liqueur, I wanted to make a few others — coffee and chocolate. I'll start by sharing the chocolate one. I made it with good Belgian cocoa, but plain dark chocolate works too: just break it into pieces, cover with water, and melt it over low heat.
  • By the way, using actual chocolate changes the liqueur's flavor, so I'd recommend trying both versions and picking your favorite. Canned condensed cocoa also works well here and gives a special note. I wouldn't keep the drink too long — it's best to finish it within a few months and just make a fresh batch if you need more (the ingredients are simple enough).
  • For the best result, use filtered or bottled water with a neutral taste. Tap water can give the drink an unpleasant off-flavor.
