Salad with canned saury and rice
Simple, made from everyday inexpensive ingredients, and quick! This salad with canned saury and rice is a real find for anyone who loves canned fish. It makes a hearty snack and can even go on a holiday table—in which case it's best to build it in layers in a ring mold.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a salad with canned saury and rice? Gather the ingredients. You can use any rice, but I prefer parboiled long-grain—it doesn't get too soft and holds its shape when mixed with the other ingredients. Boil it ahead of time in salted water until done (check the package for the time). Drain the cooked rice in a colander and let it cool.
-
Step 2:
Choose saury packed in its own juices if you can—it's lower in calories. But if that's not available, saury in oil works too. Take the fish out of the can, shake off the liquid, and mash it with a fork.
-
Step 3:
Hard-boil the eggs, cool them, and peel them. Cut them into small cubes.
-
Step 4:
Grate the cheese on the medium side of a grater. The main thing in choosing a cheese is its flavor. It should also be natural, with no milk-fat substitutes.
-
Step 5:
Wash the dill, pat it dry, and chop it finely. Besides dill, green onion is also good in this salad.
-
Step 6:
In a salad bowl, combine the saury, rice, eggs, cheese, and dill.
-
Step 7:
Dress the salad with the mayonnaise. You can make the mayonnaise yourself.
-
Step 8:
Mix everything well. Refrigerate the salad for a little while, then serve. You can shape it with a ring mold. Enjoy your meal!
- Shake the can before you buy it. The more liquid sloshing around inside, the less fish there is.
- How do you make hard-boiled eggs? To keep the eggs from cracking as they cook, put them in cold water and set them on low heat. Boil the eggs for 9 minutes after the water comes to a boil, then pour off the hot water and cool them in cold. The sudden temperature change makes the shells easier to peel.
- It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself—it'll be tastier and healthier. See some great homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use not just mayonnaise as a dressing but sour cream or plain yogurt. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like—it'll cut the calories.
