  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Gather the ingredients from the list. This salad stands out for its simple, easy-to-find ingredients. You can change the lineup, add to it, or cut it down to suit your taste. Wash the potatoes and boil them in their skins—they make the salad more filling.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Cool the potatoes, peel them, and cut them into small cubes.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

For this salad you can use ham or semi-smoked or smoked sausage. Cut the sausage the same way, into small cubes or strips.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

A red onion is best for this salad. Peel it and slice it into half-rings. It's a good idea to marinate the onion in apple cider or wine vinegar so the salad tastes more pleasant—10 minutes in the vinegar is enough.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Cut the pickles into small cubes. Instead of regular pickles, you can use small gherkins. Besides cucumbers, you can use green or black olives—they give the salad more of a kick.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Put all the ingredients in a deep bowl. Add the onion along with whatever vinegar it marinated in. Pour in the soy sauce and olive oil, and add salt and ground black pepper to taste. If you don't like the taste of soy sauce, you can swap it for mustard—you'll get a different but equally savory flavor. Mix it, let the salad soak in for a bit, and serve. Enjoy your meal!

  • In the world of salads, as with many other dishes, there are favorites—more popular and well-known ones. They aren't part of any one cuisine; they're in demand all over the world. This "savory" salad is one of them. It exists in many countries, but the same name can hide a completely different set of ingredients. Even here at home, every cook has their own "savory" salad, unlike anyone else's by the same name. And of course it's a favorite of nearly everyone, because you can change the ingredients to suit your own taste.
