A very tasty, wholesome cranberry drink! Cranberries are considered a medicinal berry. They're rich in vitamin C and other trace elements that help treat and prevent many ailments. This berry is used in folk medicine to treat colds and conditions of the digestive and urinary systems. Regularly eating cranberries — for example, as compote — is believed to support brain function, improve memory, aid the kidneys and circulation, and even help prevent cancer. The best way to put up cranberries for winter is to freeze them. Then in winter you can make all kinds of treats with them, bake with them, or cook compotes.

  • Gather the ingredients. Having frozen cranberries in the freezer is a real treasure. In winter and spring, when the body is short on vitamins, frozen cranberry compote can help maintain that vitamin balance — as long as you drink it regularly, of course. Compote from frozen cranberries is very simple to make. Rinse the cranberries well, removing any debris and leaves. Put the berries in a pot. Add the sugar. You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar to taste. The more sugar you add, the less healthy the drink becomes, naturally. But with no sugar at all, the compote turns out very sour and unpleasant. Cranberries are a very tart berry, and their flavor really comes through with the addition of sugar, even a small amount. Cover the contents of the pot with water and set it over the heat. Once the sugar dissolves and the water comes to a boil, lower the heat to medium and let the compote cook for no more than 5 minutes — with long heat treatment, all the vitamins in the cranberries and the drink will be lost, which we don't want. Turn off the heat. Cover the pot and let the compote steep for about 20 minutes. Pour the compote into glasses and serve. Frozen cranberry compote is delicious both hot and cold. If you like, you can strain the compote to keep the berries out of the drink. But it's better to leave the berries in, since they still hold plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Cranberry compotes are also made with other fruits and berries added in, which changes the flavor of the drink. Enjoy!
