Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a tasty salad with smoked chicken breast and fresh cucumber? It's very simple and quick. First, gather the ingredients from the list. You can swap the smoked breast meat for meat from drumsticks or thighs. Use any cheese you like the taste of.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Wash the cucumbers, dry them, and cut them into thin strips or small cubes. You don't have to peel them, as long as the skin isn't tough, damaged, or bitter. You can replace one long cucumber with 2 short ones.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Wash the napa cabbage, dry it, and cut it into strips. You can cut a whole head or take it apart into individual leaves. If you want a more delicate salad, cut out the white parts at the center of each leaf.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Remove the skin and bones from the smoked breast and cut it into small pieces. You can also just shred the meat into strands. You can replace the smoked chicken with plain boiled or fried fillet.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Hard-boil the eggs, cool them, and peel them. Separate the whites from the yolks. Grate the whites on the coarse side of a grater or cut them into thin strips.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Grate the yolks on the fine side of a grater. You can grate the yolks ahead of time, but it's better to grate them right over the salad — they'll be fluffier that way.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Grate the cheese on the coarse or medium side of a grater.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Set a 12–16 cm plating ring on a plate. Layer in the ingredients. First add the smoked chicken and brush mayonnaise over the top. I put the mayonnaise in a piping bag to make it easier to apply to the salad.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Next, brushing each layer with mayonnaise, add the fresh cucumber, grated cheese, and chopped egg whites. If you like, you can season the layers with salt and pepper. But I usually don't add spices to mayonnaise salads.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Add the grated yolks over the whites. I grated them right on top on the fine side of a grater. Drizzle the yolks with mayonnaise.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11

The last layer is shredded napa cabbage. It doesn't need any mayonnaise. Put the salad in the refrigerator for 1 hour. If you don't have the time or inclination to layer the salad, you can simply combine all the ingredients in a bowl, dress with mayonnaise, and mix.

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12

Remove the plating ring before serving. Garnish the salad with smoked chicken breast and fresh cucumber with cherry tomatoes and herbs to taste. Enjoy!

  • Since everyone's sense of saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, heat, acidity, and pungency is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're using a seasoning for the first time, keep in mind that some are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself — it's tastier and better for you. You'll find some good homemade mayonnaise recipes here. As a dressing you can also use sour cream or plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — that will cut the calories.
