Caramelized Oranges
Make a delicious tea-time treat yourself! In my opinion, this is the best of all such recipes, and I've tried more than one to get the result I wanted. Family and guests alike adore this unusual treat with tea. It pairs well with light alcoholic drinks, too. ;)

- First, wash the oranges well, pat them dry with paper towels, and cut them into rounds about half a centimeter thick. Boil water in a small saucepan and dip the rounds into the boiling water for a few minutes. This is to draw out all the bitterness from the orange. Then take the orange rounds out of the water, lay them out on a paper towel, and wait for them to dry off a little. You can speed this along by blotting up the moisture with napkins. Put a layer of sugar on the bottom of a pot, lay a layer of oranges on top, then sprinkle with more sugar. Keep layering the oranges, alternating them with sugar. When all the oranges are in, cover them with the remaining sugar on top. Pour half a liter of water over the oranges — it can be a little less or a little more. The main thing here is that the oranges are completely covered with liquid, but you don't want excess water either. Set the pot of the soon-to-be treat over medium heat and bring it to a boil. Then lower the heat to minimum and keep the oranges in the boiling syrup for about 1.5 hours. The orange peel should turn translucent and soft. Take the oranges out of the syrup and lay them on a sheet of paper. Let the orange rounds cool. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 210°F (100°C). Put the orange rounds in to dry out for 20 minutes. Lay them on parchment paper. Check on the oranges every couple of minutes — they can burn easily. The caramelized oranges are ready! Wait until they've cooled, and they're ready to serve. These oranges keep well in an ordinary glass jar. Enjoy your sweet tea time!
