"Prince" Layered Salad with Beef and Walnuts
Very simple, made from everyday ingredients, and ridiculously delicious! This "Prince" salad with beef and walnuts is easy to make — everything is cut up and layered. You can also just mix it all together and dress it with mayonnaise, and swap the beef for any other meat, sausage, or ham.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make the "Prince" salad with beef and walnuts? Gather your ingredients. Use a less fibrous, not-too-fatty cut of beef so the meat isn't tough in the salad — I used veal; fillet or tenderloin works. You can use salt-brined cucumbers instead of pickled.
-
Step 2:
Boil the beef in salted water until tender. The time depends on the meat — young beef cooks faster, tougher cuts take longer.
-
Step 3:
Chop the walnuts with a knife, not too fine.
-
Step 4:
Peel and wash the garlic. Grate it on a fine grater or press it. For a more savory salad, use two cloves.
-
Step 5:
Lift the meat out of the broth and let it cool, then cut it into small cubes. You can cut it into strips instead, but then cut the other ingredients the same way for a prettier look.
-
Step 6:
Cut the cucumbers into small cubes the same way.
-
Step 7:
Hard-boil the eggs at a moderate boil for 7 minutes, then cover with cold water and leave to cool. Peel them and cut into small cubes.
-
Step 8:
Set a ring mold on a suitably sized plate (mine is 6 1/4 inches / 16 cm). Spread half the beef evenly inside.
-
Step 9:
Spread mayonnaise on top.
-
Step 10:
Then add half the cucumbers and spread half the grated garlic over them.
-
Step 11:
Add another layer of mayonnaise.
-
Step 12:
Add half the chopped eggs, and another web of mayonnaise.
-
Step 13:
Repeat all the layers with the remaining ingredients in the same order (meat – cucumbers + garlic – eggs).
-
Step 14:
Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the top. Chill the salad in the refrigerator for half an hour so it sets and the flavors meld.
-
Step 15:
Lift off the ring mold. Garnish however you like before serving. Enjoy!
- Plenty of meat, a touch of zing, and a serious, savory flavor — a dream for meat-loving guys. They'll love it! Make it and see for yourself.
- For a tidy, attractive salad, cut all the ingredients into uniform pieces of the same size and shape.
- Homemade mayonnaise is best — tastier and better for you. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as a dressing, on their own or blended with mayonnaise in any ratio you like, which lightens the dish.
