  • Rinse the fruit and cut it into slices, trimming out the cores and seeds. Layer the fruit in a pot like this: apples topped with sugar, then pears topped with sugar. Set the pot over low heat and warm it to 175°F (80°C). Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let it stand for 10 hours. Turn the heat back on and bring the jam to a boil over low heat; the sugar should be fully dissolved. Turn off the heat, cover the jam, and let it rest another 10 hours. Repeat this 2 more times. Ladle the jam into sterilized jars and seal them. Turn them upside down and wrap them in a towel until completely cooled.
