Homemade Ketchup from Tomato Juice
A rich tomato sauce in just 15 minutes! It comes out really tasty—sweet and spicy (mine turned out spicy thanks to the cayenne). Everyone's taste is different, so if the sauce seems too sweet for you, just add a little more tomato juice and cook it down until it thickens.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
The ingredients you'll need. Feel free to add dried herbs to taste—I added basil and oregano, a pinch of cayenne, and a pinch of cinnamon, but none of that is required; salt and pepper alone are plenty.
-
Step 2:
Pour the sugar into a skillet and set it over medium heat.
-
Step 3:
Once the sugar has melted about two-thirds of the way, pour in the tomato juice.
-
Step 4:
Some of the sugar will seize up, but it'll melt back down as it heats. Add salt, pepper, and spices to taste.
-
Step 5:
Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until thickened.
-
Step 6:
Our sauce is ready. Serve it with meat, fish, or just alongside fried potatoes. Enjoy!
