"Tender" Apple Purée with Condensed Milk
The kids will be thrilled! This purée does take a bit of fuss, sure. But it's well worth it.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Wash the apples and let them drain, then peel and core them, cutting each into 4 pieces and then into smaller chunks. Pour water into the bottom of your cooking pot (ideally a heavy-bottomed one so the purée doesn't scorch), add the apples, cover, and cook over low heat until the apples are very soft (about 30 minutes).
-
Step 2:
Turn off the heat and mash the apples thoroughly into a purée, using an immersion blender or just a potato masher.
-
Step 3:
Stir the sugar into the applesauce and bring it to a boil.
-
Step 4:
Pour in the condensed milk, stir, bring back to a boil, and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally (watch that the purée doesn't scorch!).
-
Step 5:
Ladle the finished purée into sterilized jars and seal them with boiled lids. Wrap the jars up and leave them to cool.
