- Prep the plums: sort through them and pick out nice, firm fruit, discarding any that are spoiled or too soft.
- Look over the grapes too, and remove any damaged ones.
- Wash the plums and grapes thoroughly under running water and pack them into clean, prepared jars.
- Fill the jars to the very top with boiling water, cover with clean lids, and let stand for 15 minutes.
- After that, pour the water off into a large saucepan, add the sugar, and stir.
- Set the pan over the heat, bring the compote to a boil, and boil for 2–3 minutes.
- Pour the syrup back over the fruit in the jars, seal with the lids, and wrap in a warm blanket.
- Once completely cooled, move the compote to a cool cellar.
- Drink to your health!
