Cooking method
- This year I tried making tomato spread from scratch for the very first time. I went for it because I really love eating it alongside main dishes, but until now I'd only ever bought it at the store. I can say that for a first attempt, it came out pretty well. If you'd like to try making this spread too, just follow the easy steps below.
- Start by washing the tomatoes well and puréeing them in a blender. Wash, peel, rinse, and finely grate the carrots. Peel the onion and chop it finely. Combine the prepared vegetables in a large pot and mix them well. Pour in the vegetable oil, then add the vinegar, sugar, salt, ground black pepper, and bay leaf, and stir. Set the pot over low heat and cook the mixture for 2 to 2.5 hours, stirring and skimming off the foam. When the time is up, take the pot off the heat, ladle the finished spread into sterilized jars, and seal them with lids. By the next day it's ready to serve.
