Little Piggy Layered Salad
A salad that's as original in looks as it is in taste — shaped like a cute little pig!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
The ingredients you'll need.
-
Step 2:
Boil the potatoes, carrots, and eggs until tender, then cool and peel them.
-
Step 3:
Clean the mushrooms and cut them into medium pieces. Peel the onion and dice it small.
-
Step 4:
Sauté the onion and mushrooms in oil over high heat for about 5 minutes, salting the mushrooms as they cook.
-
Step 5:
Transfer the onion and mushrooms to a plate and let them cool.
-
Step 6:
Grate the potatoes on the coarse side of a grater.
-
Step 7:
Grate the eggs on the coarse side of a grater.
-
Step 8:
Grate the carrots on the coarse side of a grater.
-
Step 9:
Rinse the dill and parsley, dry them, and chop finely.
-
Step 10:
Cut the sausage into rounds about 1/4 inch (5 mm) thick and cut out decorations for the pig — "ears," "hooves," a "snout," and a "tail."
-
Step 11:
Dice the remaining sausage.
-
Step 12:
Grate the cheese on the fine side of a grater.
-
Step 13:
Set a 6-inch (16 cm) ring mold on a plate. Layer the salad ingredients in this order: potatoes, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, mushrooms and onions, carrots, mayonnaise, sausage, herbs, mayonnaise, eggs, mayonnaise, cheese. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour so the layers meld.
-
Step 14:
Carefully lift off the ring mold.
-
Step 15:
Decorate the salad with the cut-out sausage pieces. Poke nostrils into the "snout." Use whole allspice berries for the piglet's "eyes."
-
Step 16:
Enjoy, and happy holidays!
