  • We have a neighbor — Misha, the curious little nose. I call him that fondly because he's only 4. Every so often he slips through our door, sits down at the kitchen table, and sighs, eyeing the candy in the dish. Of course, he always gets his share of sweets. Meanwhile, his mom insists the child won't eat anything. Yesterday we had sausage soup for lunch — and no candy. And this little "won't-eat-a-thing" polished off a whole bowl of soup and announced he'd send his mom over to us for the recipe. To make the soup, prep the vegetables. Peel the potatoes and cut them into batons. Dice the carrot finely, crush the garlic, and slice the leek into rounds. Thaw the sausages and slice them into rounds too. Put a pot of water on the stove, bring it to a boil, and add the potatoes. While they cook, make the sauté: fry the leek in vegetable oil, add the sausage pieces, and fry a little; then add the carrot and cook everything for 5 minutes. Slice the cheese crosswise. Twenty minutes after the water boils, add the cheese to the potatoes. Once it melts, add the sauté, boil for five minutes, salt to taste, and sprinkle with fresh herbs. Turn off the heat, add the garlic and a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream. The soup is ready.
