  • I learned this recipe for lingonberries with sugar from a cookbook published in the 1950s, "Tasty and Healthy Food." It's a very simple, delicious recipe. Usually this lingonberry-and-sugar preserve is put up for winter. Here's how it's made:
  • Wash the lingonberries thoroughly and put them through a meat grinder. Then add granulated sugar to the lingonberry mass and mix well. Pack the resulting lingonberry mass into clean jars, cover them with lids, and keep in a cool place. And there you have a wonderful treat — lingonberries with sugar!
  • Lingonberries are traditionally used to treat various ailments. Lingonberry aids digestion and stimulates the secretion of saliva and pancreatic and gastric juices, which makes it useful for treating gastritis with low acidity. It's also used as a supportive remedy for hypertension. Lingonberries contain sugars, mineral salts, catechins, tannins, pectin, and acids (citric, acetic, malic, oxalic, and formic). Enjoy!
