Cooking method

Cooking time: 20 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a ham and cheese omelet in a skillet? Gather your ingredients. The amounts and proportions are entirely up to you — add more ham and tomato, or more eggs and cheese, however you prefer.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Cut the ham into small cubes.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Heat your omelet pan until hot and add a little vegetable oil. Add the diced ham and cook for a minute over low heat.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk. Add a little salt and seasoning and whisk until smooth. Go easy on the salt — the ham is already salty and will season the omelet.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Stir the grated cheese into the egg mixture. Any cheese works, as long as it melts well and grates easily. Mix the cheese into the eggs.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Wash the tomatoes, cut them in half, and remove the stem end. Dice them and add them to the ham in the pan. Cook the tomatoes and ham together for another few minutes to soften the tomatoes.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Pour the egg mixture over the ham and tomatoes and cover the pan. Cook the omelet over low heat for 5–7 minutes, until everything is set. Just keep the heat low so the omelet doesn't scorch.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Take the finished omelet off the heat and serve it hot, sprinkled with chopped fresh herbs. Enjoy!

  • Always wash your eggs before using them — even a shell that looks clean can carry bacteria. A food-safe brush works well for this.
  • The right pan matters, too. A poorly chosen skillet can ruin even a great recipe, so use a heavy, evenly heating one.
  • Here's an easy way to tell if the oil is hot enough: dip in the handle of a wooden spoon. If bubbles gather around it, you're ready to start cooking.
