Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make puff pastry pockets with chicken, cheese, and potato in the oven? Start by gathering your ingredients. Take the puff pastry out of the freezer ahead of time so it has a chance to thaw and come to room temperature. Peel the potatoes and rinse off any dirt.
-
Step 2:
Cut the chicken breast and peeled potatoes into small cubes. Add a little vegetable oil to a hot skillet and add the potatoes and chicken. Fry over low heat for 7–8 minutes.
-
Step 3:
Peel the onions, rinse, and finely chop. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and fry everything together for another 2–3 minutes. Season with salt and spices to taste. Let the filling cool a bit. If you spoon hot filling onto the pastry, the dough underneath softens a lot and becomes hard to move onto the baking sheet.
-
Step 4:
Roll out the puff pastry a little and cut it into squares. Spoon a little filling into the center of each and add some grated cheese. Bring the corners of the dough up to the center and pinch the edges, leaving a few small gaps for steam to escape.
-
Step 5:
Place the pockets on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top of each one with egg yolk, and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if you like. Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 20–25 minutes.
-
Step 6:
By then the pockets will have turned an appetizing golden color and puffed up a bit. Take them out of the oven, let them cool slightly, and serve. Enjoy!
- You can swap the chicken for turkey or any other meat you like. Just keep in mind that the cooking time and calorie count will change accordingly.
- Almost any cheese works here — hard, semi-hard, or a soft one like mozzarella. What matters is that it's good quality, tastes great, contains no milk-fat substitutes, and melts well.
- Remember that every oven is different, so the temperature and baking time may vary from what's listed. To make sure any baked dish turns out well, it helps to know your own oven's quirks.
