Turkey and Potatoes in a Slow Cooker
A simple, delicious, and wholesome dish for lunch or dinner! A slow cooker makes cooking easier and faster. It takes a fraction of the time, and you don't have to hover over the stove worrying that something will scorch or boil over. You just prep the ingredients and let the slow cooker do the rest — then dig in when it beeps. And on top of all that, slow-cooker turkey with potatoes comes out really tasty and good for you.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather the ingredients. Feel free to swap in or add more vegetables. You can use a whole turkey if you're cooking for the whole family, or just fillet or bone-in pieces, whatever you prefer.
-
Step 2:
Rinse the turkey and cut it into small pieces. Rinse it once more to wash away any blood.
-
Step 3:
Wash, peel, and cut the potatoes into large pieces. Rinse them under running water to remove excess starch.
-
Step 4:
Wash, peel, and grate the carrots.
-
Step 5:
Peel the onion and chop it finely with a knife.
-
Step 6:
Pour vegetable oil into the slow-cooker pot, set it to the "Sauté" program, and let the oil warm up a little. Add the prepped onion and carrots. Stir with a wooden spatula and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, leaving the lid open. If you want to make the dish lighter and lower in calories, you can skip sautéing the vegetables and cook everything on the "Stew" program from the start — but it tastes better this way.
-
Step 7:
Add the turkey to the sautéed vegetables and cook for 10 minutes, stirring now and then. Then add the potatoes to the pot and stir. Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. If you like, add some chopped parsley for extra aroma, or any other spices you enjoy. Pour in enough water to cover the contents halfway. Set the "Stew" program and leave it for 30 minutes.
-
Step 8:
Partway through, check on the dish and give it a stir with a wooden spatula. For extra flavor, you can add washed tomatoes cut into large pieces; once they're in, stew for about 15 minutes more. Then turn off the slow cooker and let the dish rest under the lid for about 10 minutes. Almost all the liquid should cook off. Serve sprinkled with chopped fresh herbs. Enjoy!
