Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather all the ingredients up front, since things move quickly from here.
-
Step 2:
Lightly beat the egg.
-
Step 3:
Add the kefir.
-
Step 4:
The baking soda.
-
Step 5:
The sugar.
-
Step 6:
The melted butter (or margarine).
-
Step 7:
Mix the flour with the salt.
-
Step 8:
Combine the dry and wet ingredients.
-
Step 9:
Stir together.
-
Step 10:
Chop the fresh herbs — they're optional, and you can skip them entirely.
-
Step 11:
Add the herbs to the dough.
-
Step 12:
Knead the dough briefly — just until everything comes together.
-
Step 13:
Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces.
-
Step 14:
Roll each piece out into a thin round.
-
Step 15:
Using a rolling pin to move it, transfer each round to a skillet with a little vegetable oil. If your pan has a good non-stick coating, you can skip the oil entirely.
-
Step 16:
Fry until golden, then flip and cook the other side. These flatbreads cook very fast — just 2–3 minutes per side.
-
Step 17:
And there you have it — lovely flatbreads! Enjoy!
