Breaded Squid Strips (Crispy Sticks)

Crispy, super-tasty sticks made from squid. This recipe is spot on — crunchy and delicious. Of course, it's best not to overdo dishes like this, but every once in a while you just crave something like it. All in all, I recommend it — you won't be sorry!

Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Rinse the squid and peel off all the membranes. To help the membranes come away easily, put the squid in a bowl of warm water or clean it under hot running water from the tap.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

You can remove the membrane inside the squid by slitting the body open, as shown in the photo.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut the squid into strips. Stir the paprika and salt into the flour, beat the eggs lightly, and put out the breadcrumbs. Go easy on the salt — squid has a mild flavor, and too much salt will just get in the way.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Start dredging the strips, first in the flour.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

    Then in the egg.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

    And finally in the breadcrumbs.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

For now you can lay the strips out on a cutting board.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Pour vegetable oil into the pan (olive oil is a good choice, since it holds up well to heat), about 1–1.5 cm (½ inch) deep.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Fry the squid strips on both sides until golden.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

To drain off the excess oil, you can set the strips in a colander.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11

    Or on a paper towel.

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12

    And that's it — DONE!

  13. Step 13:

    Step 13

    Enjoy!
