Cheesy Ham-Stuffed Flatbreads
A savory, filling dish. It comes together fast — and disappears even faster! It's really tasty and simple to make. You can use any deli meat you like for the filling. Ham gives it a mild flavor; something like salami makes it spicier. You could also fill them with a sharp, aromatic hard cheese for a whole new take. And a stack of these flatbreads makes great picnic food — they're delicious on the go!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Here are our ingredients. Grate the cheese on the fine side of a box grater.
-
Step 2:
In a deep bowl, stir together the kefir, salt, sugar, and baking soda.
-
Step 3:
Add the grated cheese.
-
Step 4:
Then add the sifted flour.
-
Step 5:
Knead the dough. Keep adding flour, since it will be very sticky at first.
-
Step 6:
Then roll the dough into a log and cut it into portions. This amount makes 9 pieces.
-
Step 7:
Grate the ham on the coarse side of a box grater.
-
Step 8:
Roll a piece of dough into a round and put a spoonful of ham in the center.
-
Step 9:
Gather the dough up around the filling to seal it into a little pouch.
-
Step 10:
Then flip it over and gently roll it out.
-
Step 11:
Turn it over to the other side and gently roll it out a bit more.
-
Step 12:
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet and lay in the flatbread. Cover with a lid.
-
Step 13:
Once it's golden underneath, flip it, cover again, and fry until done. Repeat with all the flatbreads.
-
Step 14:
Here's the stack they make — they're delicious both hot and cold.
-
Step 15:
Set the table and call everyone in to eat! They're great with fresh vegetables, or with a dollop of sour cream. Enjoy!
