Sausages in a Mashed Potato Coating

Shake up your everyday menu — fry up sausages wrapped in mashed potatoes! Sausages aren't exactly health food, especially for kids, but this happens to be one of their all-time favorite dishes. Every now and then I treat them to sausages in a mashed potato coating. Of course, if you're cooking for little ones, you can skip the spices. And it makes a great dinner for grown-ups too.

    1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Boil them in salted water until tender, then mash into a purée. 2. Once the potatoes have cooled a little, crack in the egg. 3. Add the pepper and, if needed, a bit more salt. 4. Grate the hard cheese and add it to the potatoes. You can skip the cheese, but I think it's tastier with it, so I'd suggest adding it. 5. Add the flour to the rest of the ingredients and mix everything well. The mixture should be firm and smooth. If it's a little runny, work in a bit more flour. 6. Divide the dough into 6 portions and flatten each into a round — set a sausage in the center of each. Wrap the potato dough snugly around the sausage on all sides. 7. Mix the remaining flour with the spices and roll each parcel in the mixture, coating all sides. 8. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet. 9. Fry each mashed-potato-wrapped sausage on all four sides until golden and crisp. 10. Set the finished sausages on a paper towel to drain off the excess oil. The sausages in mashed potatoes are ready! Serve them hot, sprinkled with fresh herbs.
